About
I studied pure mathematics at the University of Melbourne, and I now work on AI-safety problems independently.
I want to dedicate my career to this because of the argument in The Most Important Century. If we build AI powerful enough to reshape the long-term future this century, the people alive now could matter more than almost anyone who ever lives. There's an obvious hubris in taking that personally enough to act on it. Not acting seems worse.
What I'm looking for
I'm looking for opportunities to build the technical ability and research judgement needed to contribute to AI safety. I want to work on concrete questions that matter, alongside people who take them seriously. I'm as happy doing careful experiments as building the machinery a problem needs.
Most of the time I'm either playing with my cat Charli (obviously named after Charli XCX) or thinking about Kant. I don't think people realise how crazy it is that just by thinking, we can know real things about the world without ever looking outside our own minds.
